【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=대경대학교 연기예술과가 제20회 거창세계대학연극제에서 4관왕을 차지했다.
지난 12일 경남 거창에서 폐막한 이번 연극제에서 대경대는 작품상인 금상을 비롯해 남녀 연기대상, 연기상을 수상했다.
올해 거창세계대학연극제는 지난 5일부터 12일까지 거창연극학교 장미극장에서 열렸다. 국내외 대학 연극 전공자들이 참가한 축제로, 해외에서는 미국 밥 존스 대학의 '햄릿', 미국 엠포리아 주립대학의 '로미오와 줄리엣', 미국 콜로라도 주립대학의 '작은 아씨들'이 무대에 올랐다. 국내에서는 동아방송예술대를 비롯한 본선 진출 6개 대학이 경연을 펼쳤다.
대경대 연기예술과는 셰익스피어의 '베니스의 상인'을 현대적으로 재구성한 '사일로'로 본선에 참여했다. 이번 작품에는 김정근, 황태선, 김수민 교수가 연출협업 지도교수로 참여했다.
샤일록 역의 김성환과 포셔 역의 변가빈이 각각 남녀 연기대상을 받았으며, 제시카 역을 맡은 하성연이 연기상을 수상했다.
연출을 맡은 강동훈 학생은 "수상 자체를 목표로 하기보다 작품 연구에 집중했던 것이 좋은 결과로 이어졌다"고 말했다.
이번 작품을 위해 연기예술과 전공 학생 20여 명은 하계 방학을 반납하고 두 달간 캠퍼스에서 작품연습에 매진했다. 지난 7일부터 8일까지 남양주 캠퍼스 소극장에서 리허설 공연을 거쳐 본선 무대를 준비했다.
김정근 교수는 "오브제를 활용해 실험적이면서도 원작의 핵심을 살린 것이 주효했다"고 설명했다.

The Department of Acting at Daekyung University won four awards at the 20th Geochang World University Theatre Festival.

The Department of Acting at Daekyung University competed in the finals with "Silo," a modern reimagining of Shakespeare's "The Merchant of Venice." Professors Kim Jeong-geun, Hwang Tae-seon, and Kim Su-min served as co-directing advisors for this production.
Kim Sung-hwan, who played Shylock, and Byun Ga-bin, who played Portia, each received the male and female acting awards, while Ha Sung-yeon, who played Jessica, won the Best Acting Award.
Director Kang Dong-hoon said, "Rather than aiming for the awards themselves, focusing on researching the work led to good results."
For this production, approximately 20 students majoring in Acting Arts sacrificed their summer vacation to rehearse on campus for two months. They held a rehearsal performance at the Namyangju Campus Small Theater from the 7th to the 8th, preparing for the final stage.
Professor Kim Jeong-geun explained, "The use of objects, while experimentally preserving the essence of the original work, was effective."
