【충북 브레이크뉴스】임창용 기자=충주시는 봄철 나무 심기 기간을 맞아 경제수 조림과 공익조림 등 총 159ha 규모의 조림사업을 추진한다고 9일 밝혔다.
시는 기후변화 대응과 지속 가능한 산림자원 조성을 위해 경제적 가치가 높은 수종을 중심으로 한 경제수 조림과 산림의 공익적 기능 강화를 위한 공익조림을 추진해 건강한 산림 조성과 미래 산림자원 확보에 나설 계획이다.
아울러 시민들이 직접 나무심기에 참여할 수 있도록 충주산림조합에서 나무시장(칠금동 131-2번지 일원)도 운영한다.
나무시장에서는 밤나무, 감나무, 대추나무 등 경제수와 유실수, 조경수 등을 판매해 시민들이 손쉽게 묘목을 구입할 수 있도록 할 예정이다.
또한 묘목 판매와 함께 나무 심는 방법과 관리 요령에 대한 상담도 제공해 시민들이 올바른 방법으로 나무를 심고 가꿀 수 있도록 지원할 계획이다.
변준호 산림과장은 “나무심기 좋은 봄철을 맞아 추진하는 조림사업과 나무시장 운영을 통해 시민들이 산림의 소중함을 느끼고 나무심기에 참여하는 계기가 되길 바란다”며 “생활 속 작은 나무 한 그루 심기가 기후변화 대응과 건강한 산림을 만드는 첫걸음인 만큼 많은 시민들의 관심과 참여를 부탁드린다”고 말했다.
한편 충주시는 오는 4월 3일 식목일 기념 나무심기 행사를 개최하고, 시민과 함께하는 산림 가꾸기 분위기 확산에도 힘쓸 계획이다.
