대구 중.남구 국회의원 보궐선거 백수범 예비후보가 동성로 일대에 야외 흡연부스를 설치하겠다는 공약을 발표했다.
지난 6일 오전 동성로 일대를 다니면서 흡연으로 인해 오염된 골목을 확인한 백 예비후보는 “야외 흡연부스 설치가 필요하다”고 주장에 나섰다.

그는 “동성로는 이미 금연구역으로 지정돼 있지만, 골목 곳곳은 흡연으로 인해 발생하는 쓰레기로 몸살을 앓고 있다”며 “비흡연자들은 간접흡연으로 고통 받고, 1층에 위치한 식당은 담배연기로 인해 쾌적한 공간을 얻지 못하는 실정이다”고 말했다.
이어 “오는 8일부터 중구청이 도시철도 출입구와 택시승차대로부터 반경 10m이내에 대한 대대적인 흡연단속을 실시한다고 밝혔지만 실효성이 있을지 모르겠다.”며 의문을 표했다.
백 예비후보는 “흡연부스를 설치해 운영하는 것이 흡연으로 인한 피해를 줄이는 대안이 될 것”이라면서 “야외 흡연부스를 통해 동성로를 보다 건강하고 깨끗한 젊음의 공간으로 만들겠다.”고 약속을 전했다.
한편 대구 중구는 동성로를 비롯해 택시승차대, 도시철도, 남산어린이공원, 수창공원 등 모두 243 곳을 조례에 따라 금연구역으로 지정.운영하고 있다.
