대구지하철 참사가 19주기를 맞이한 가운데 지역의 정치권이 이에 대한 추모의 뜻을 전했다.
더불어민주당 대구시당은 2003년 2월 18일 대구 지하철 참사가 발생한 지 19년째를 맞이한 가운데 “잊지않겠다. 안전한 나라를 만들겠다”며 논평을 발표했다.
민주당 대구시당은 “2003년 이후에도 태안 기름 유출 사건, 용산 철거 참사, 세월호 침몰, 광주 아파트 붕괴 등 인재는 계속되고 있다.”면서 “생명과 안전은 민주당이 추구하는 첫 번째 원칙”이라고 밝혔다.
그러면서 “이재명과 민주당은 대구의 안전을 위해 더 노력하겠다.”며 이에대한 입장을 전했다.

정의당 대구시당 역시 성명을 통해 희생자들의 명복과 유가족들에 대한 위로를 전했다.
정의당 대구시당은 “이런 비극적인 참사가 생길 때마다 우리는 다짐을 하고 재발 방지 대책을 세우고 사고원인을 찾고 많은 노력을 기울이고 있지만 20년 가까이 지난 지금도 여전히 사회적인 참사가 발생하고 있다.”면서 안타까움을 전했다.
이어 “지하철 참사가 일어난 후 내장재도 불에 타지 않는 것으로 바꾸고, 위급한 상황에서 지하철 문을 시민들이 열 수 있도록 지하철 곳곳에 안내되어 있다.”면서 “사고가 나고 사람이 죽어야 소 잃고 외양간 고치듯 부랴부랴 재발방지대책을 세운다. 이제는 미리미리 대비해야 할 때다. 생명과 안전 앞에 어떤 대비도 과하지 않다.”며 재발방지대책의 필요성을 강조했다.
