[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] 진주청동기문화박물관이 박물관 야외전시장 볼거리 설치사업으로 추진한 소규모 인공폭포 공사를 완료하고 24일 준공식을 가졌다.
진주 지역은 청동기시대 연구에 있어 손꼽히는 중요 유적이 밀집되어 있으며, 특히 진주청동기문화박물관이 있는 대평 지역은 우리나라 최대 규모의 청동기시대 마을 유적이 위치한다.
동시에 진주 지역의 역사적, 문화적 정체성을 보여주는 대표적인 선사유적이다.
진주시는 현재 추진하고 있는 ‘진양호 르네상스 프로젝트’와 연계하여 박물관의 지속적인 활성화 사업을 진행해왔다.

이날 준공한 인공폭포는 1,132㎡ 부지에 상부 폭포 2곳과 연못 안 분수 8곳으로 구성됐다.
일몰 후에는 야간경관조명과 청동기 전망대 파노라마 조명 돛단배와 어우러지는 소규모 폭포를 연출해 아름다운 밤 풍경을 연출한다.
진주시는 청동기문화박물관 활성화를 위해 지난 2019년부터 기본사업계획을 수립하고, 2022년까지 전시관 내외의 시설에 대한 정비를 진행했다.
상설전시 개편, 기획전시관 조성, 외벽 조형물 및 전망대 정비, 박물관 교육체험관 증축, 야외전시장 산책로 정비, 터널 분수 및 쿨링 포그 수경시설 설치, 야간 개장 시에도 볼거리를 제공하는 LED 교체 및 경관조명 사업 등을 추진했다.
조규일 진주시장은 “청동기문화박물관 시설 개선 사업이 마무리됨에 따라 박물관을 찾는 관람객이 많이 늘 것으로 예상된다”며 “앞으로도 박물관 관람객에게 새롭고 특별한 볼거리를 제공하기 위해 최선을 다할 것”이라고 말했다.
