희망브리지 전국재해구호협회(회장 송필호)가 지난달 8일 시간당 136.5㎜라는 유례없는 큰비로 심각한 침수피해가 발생한 서울 동작구 주민들의 일상 복귀를 위해 소매를 걷어붙였다.
희망브리지 대학생 봉사단 42명은 지난 3일 주거지가 물에 잠겼던 반지하 세대 7곳에서 집수리 봉사를 진행했다. 봉사단은 6명씩 조를 꾸려 침수로 곰팡이가 핀 벽지를 뜯어내 도배를 새로 하고, 물이 가득 찼던 바닥도 장판을 새롭게 깔았다. 이번 집수리 봉사에 사용된 장판과 벽지, 풀은 이산화탄소 발생량을 50% 이상 줄인 친환경 제품이다.

희망브리지 김정희 사무총장도 “추석을 앞두고 허리춤까지 물이 차오른 흔적이 건물 벽에 선명하게 남아있는 집에서 지낼 수밖에 없던 수재민들의 보금자리를 깨끗하게 재단장해 기쁘다”며 “전국 각지에서 온 대학생 봉사자들과 휴일을 반납하고 봉사에 참여한 멘토들의 손길로 깨끗해진 보금자리가 조금이나마 위로가 되기를 바란다”고 말했다.
