충주댐 광역상수도 2단계 사업이 마무리됐다.
환경부와 한국수자원공사는 7일 오전 충북 충주시에 위치한 충주정수장에서 ‘충주댐 공업용수도사업 준공식을 갖고 가동에 들어갔다.
이날 행사에는 한화진 환경부 장관, 김영환 충청북도지사를 비롯해 지역주민과 사업 관계자 등 200여 명이 참석했다.
‘충주댐 공업용수도사업’은 반도체, 신규 산업단지 개발 등의 이유로 공업용수 부족이 예상되었던 중부내륙 지역에 용수를 안정적으로 공급하는 사업이다.
지난 2012년부터 총사업비 3,404억 원을 투입해 시설용량 20만㎥/일의 취·정수장과 총 길이 120km의 수도관로를 설치했다.
이번 사업이 마무리돼 충주 등 5개 시군(충주, 진천, 음성, 증평, 괴산)의 24개 산업단지와 충북혁신도시는 생활 및 공업용수(8.8만㎥/일)를 적기에 공급받을 수 있게 됐다.
또 이천 에스케이(SK)하이닉스(반도체)에 하루 11.2만㎥의 공업용수를 공급 국가 첨단산업인 반도체 산업 성장에 기여할 것으로 기대된다.
한편 ,환경부는 앞으로 지속적인 지역 발전으로 용수 수요의 증가가 예상되는 중부내륙 지역에 선제적으로 용수를 공급하기 위해 ’충주댐계통 광역상수도사업 3단계 사업을 추진하고 있다.
