이날 준공식에는 주낙영 시장, 김상기 포항지방해양수산청장, 박성환 경북도 해양수산과장, 마을주민 등 100여명이 참석했다.
경주시는 지난 2020년 해양수산부 공모사업에 선정돼 73억500만원 예산을 들여 △어항기반시설 정비 △활성화센터 및 다목적광장 등 특화사업 △바리스타 육성 및 지역협의체 운영의 주민역량 강화사업 등을 추진했다.
그간 나정항은 인근 어항에 비해 외곽·계류시설을 비롯해 안전·기능편익 시설 등이 부족해 어업활동에 있어 상당한 제약이 있었다.
이에 시는 해안변에 테트라포드(TTP)를 추가 설치해 이안제 구간을 보강했으며, 기존 선양장을 정비함과 동시에 물양장도 추가 조성했다. 어업인들의 어업활동 편의를 위해 어구보관창고도 설치했다.
사업의 핵심인 특화사업으로는 어업활동 외 소득창출 기회를 마련하고자 기존 어촌계회관 수평 신축을 통해 작은카페, 특산물판매장 등으로 활용될 ‘나정 활성화센터’를 조성했다.
지역의 잠재력을 활용한 관광 자산화와 주민 삶의 질 향상을 위해 조성된 나정갤러리 광장, 나정포차마당 등 다목적광장은 다양한 활동을 수용할 수 있는 다기능 공간으로 활용된다.
또 해안산책로를 정비해 방문객들이 동해안의 아름다운 절경을 감상할 수 있게 했으며, 포토존 설치, 해당화·해국 등 초화류를 식재함으로 수려한 자연경관을 즐기며 거닐 수 있게 했다.
더불어 바다어장 놀이터를 조성해 바다 전망 감상과 휴식을 동시에 할 수 있게 했으며, 여름철 마을공동어장에서 아이들이 체험활동을 할 수 있는 프로그램도 개발했다.
이밖에 지역역량강화 사업을 통해 향후 바리스타 자격증 취득 등 맞춤형 교육은 물론 주민들의 자생력 향상과 지속 가능한 어촌개발 역량을 향상시킬 수 있도록 다양한 운영체계도 마련했다.
주낙영 시장은 “나정2리는 지역 동해남부 해양관광의 중심지로 주변에 다양한 관광자원들이 입지하고 있어 해양관광 활성화에 기대치가 높은 곳이다”라며 “이번 사업의 성공적 추진으로 지역의 공간적 가치를 향상시키고 주민들에게는 살고 싶은 마을, 방문객에게는 다시 찾고 싶은 마을이 될 수 있도록 최선을 다 하겠다”라고 말했다.
