대한불교조계종 백운사(주지 법진스님)가 지난 10일 나라를 위해 목숨을 바친 순국선열과 호국영령을 추모하고 극락왕생을 발원하는 위령재 및 영산대재를 개최했다.

올해로 9회를 맞은 백운사의 위령제는 지역 내 호국보훈의 달을 대표하는 행사로 자리매김했다. 백운사는 이날 생계에 어려움을 겪는 저소득층을 위해 의왕시에 라면 300박스, 관내 보훈단체에 쌀 108포를 기탁했다.

백운사 법진 주지 스님은 “우리 주위 국가유공자 및 보훈가족의 아픔을 치유하고 어려운 이웃들에게 조금이라도 도움이 되고자 하는 마음에서 성품을 기탁하게 됐다”고 말했다.

김성제 의왕시장은 “매년 나라를 위해 희생하신 분들의 넋을 기리기 위한 위령제와 함께 취약계층을 위한 나눔도 실천해 주셔서 감사드린다”며 “의왕시에서도 보훈가족을 위한 관심과 지원을 아끼지 않고, 아울러 복지사각지대가 발생하지 않도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 전했다.
