사이버보안·데이터과학 분야 전문인력 양성 및 산업 육성을 위한 업무 협약이 28일 있었다.
세종시와 KAIST는 이날 세종시청에서 업무 협약식을 갖고 공동 노력에 나섰다.
협약식에는 최민호 시장과 이광형 총장을 비롯해 고기동 행정부시장, 문재균 공과대학장 등 양 기관의 주요 인사가 참석했다.
시는 이번 협약을 기점으로 현재 조성 계획 중인 지식산업센터 등을 교육·연구를 위한 공간으로 활용할 수 있도록 검토에 들어갔다.
향후 두 기관은 논의를 구체화해 연구센터 및 대학원 설립에 협력을 이어갈 계획이다.
또 4-2생활권에 들어설 ‘글로벌 청년 창업빌리지’는 ‘대학-연구-창업’이 선순환되는 혁신지구로 조성할 예정인 만큼, 앞으로 공동 교육·연구환경조성에 있어 이와 연계한 협력방안을 모색할 방침이다.
특히 ‘지방자치분권 및 지역균형발전에 관한 특별법’에 따라 ‘기회발전특구’의 법적 근거가 마련돼, 사이버보안 분야 기회발전특구 지정·운영 과정에서도 KAIST와 협력할 계획이다.
세종시 특성에 따라 다양한 공공수요가 예상되는 만큼 관내 정보보호산업 자원을 활용해 우수인력 공급과 관련기업을 유치하고 사이버보안 분야 차별화를 꾀할 방침이다.
최민호 시장은 “국내 최고대학인 KAIST와 본격적인 협력의 첫 단추를 꿰게 돼 매우 기쁘게 생각한다”라며, “특히 이번 협약은 국가행정의 중추로서 세종시의 사이버보안 중요성이 어느 지역보다 높다는 데 양 기관이 인식을 같이한 결과”라고 말했다.
