영덕문화원, ‘조선시대 영덕 영해 선비들의 행장’발간

【브레이크뉴스 영덕】박희경 기자=영덕문화원은 조선시대 영덕과 영해에서 태어나 활동하였던 선비들의 삶을 기록한 행장(行狀) 번역본(飜譯本) 제1권을 발간했다고 24일 밝혔다.

이번에 발간한 제1권에는 1500년대에 태어난 백현룡(白見龍)선생으로부터 1800년대에 태어난 김재락(金在洛)선생에 이르기까지 서른 한분의 행장을 번역하여 싣고 있다.

대개 행장(行狀)이란 특정 인물에 대한 일대기(一代記)라고 할 수 있으며 비명(碑銘)과 묘지명(墓誌銘)을 작성(作成)하는 토대(土臺)가 되는 것으로 그 내용은 관직, 성명, 본관·가계, 출생 연월일과 성장·수학과정, 그리고 행적과 돌아간 해와 묘소의 위치, 부인의 가계와 성품, 자손 등으로 구성되어 있다.

따라서 이러한 행장은 후대에 있어 해당 인물에 대하여 구체적인 행적을 연구하는 기초 자료가 되며 그 시대에 있어 삶의 편린(片鱗)을 볼 수 있는 귀중한 기록으로 대개 각 개인의 문집의 말미(末尾)나 족보의 초두(初頭)에 편철하는 데 일명 연보(年譜)라 하기도 한다.

이러한 행장(行狀)을 통하여 그 분의 조상(祖上)과 자손·학행·관직·혼인관계 등에 대하여 알 수 있는데 말하자면 한 집안의 가계에 대한 대략을 알 수 있는 중요한 자료라고 할 수 있다. 대개 행장은 자신이 평소에 지어두었다가 자손에게 전하든지 문장에 능한 선비들에게 부탁을 하거나 그 자손들의 부탁에 따라 친구나 문인 또는 자손들이 작성하기도 했다.

영덕문화원 김두기 원장은 이번 “조선시대 영덕·영해 선비들의 행장”제1권을 발간으로 조선시대 영덕과 영해에서 사셨던 선조들의 삶의 궤적을 살필 수 있어 지금 이 시대에 살고 있는 우리들의 삶의 궤적이 우리 후손들에게는 어떻게 보일 수 있을까를 뒤돌아보는 하나의 계기가 될 것으로 크게 기대된다.

Yeongdeok Cultural Center publishes ‘Actions of Yeongdeok and Yeonghae scholars in the Joseon Dynasty’

In general, Haengjang(行狀) can be said to be a biography of a specific person, and it serves as the basis for writing epitaphs and epitaphs.
